HOW IT WORKS : Youth are exposed to Quality music several hours per week, training to perform in concerts at schools, nursing homes, retirement homes, to name a few venues. We performed at 10 such places in 2015. Many of the songs we play are songs our players have brought in, arranged by Mr. Wolsley.
During daily rehearsals, we get "snack breaks" donated by volunteers.
Graduates of the program occasionally volunteer their time to teach younger ones what they have learned through the El Sistema program.
Aside from the music, valuable life lessons are taught: self-esteem, pride of accomplishment
We especially encourage three very important concepts :
Humility + Integrity + Passion = HIP !
WHAT WE NEED : We have grown to the point where all of our current resources are stretched. Borrowed or donated instruments need to be repaired and maintained. We need newer instruments in order for the youth to improve their skills beyond where they are now.
EXAMPLE: Transportation to our concert venues is always a scramble with 25 youth. If enough safe transportation is not available, some may not be able to play, after all that rehearsal work. Wouldn't it be better to rent a bus and include everyone?
OUR VISION: We need to establish a permanent program with proper succession planning of instructors in order to reach out to all youth. We have a waiting list, we need help to take these waiting youth into the program. We can't do it on an empty tank !
