Ability Through Drumming is a free, intensive, music instruction program for children with special needs. The program is offered through El Sistema South London, and is taught by an experienced special education/music teacher. Ability Through Drumming began in September of 2018 in partnership with Thames Valley Children’s Centre.  

  • The program occurs on Tuesday evenings from mid-September until early April (24 weeks).
  • Program participants are ages 10 and up.
  • There is an interview process to meet the applicant and assess their needs and strengths.
  • There is no charge for this program.​

final Performance, 2026

Our drumming students worked diligently all year to master the playing of their handbells, involving the skills of reading musical notation, and accurately following rhythm. They demonstrated this skill with their final performance leading up to the 2026 Kiwanis Music Festival.

Sessions And Performances | 2024/25

Students are instructed on reading notation. Each student has personalized special equipment to meet their needs and aid in their musical development. The sessions spent learning notation allow students to develop a new skill – playing handbells.
