The Drumming and Strings programs continue to serve each student's needs and provide special equipment to best aid their musical training. In the left photo above, a "bow guide" is being used by a beginner string student to aid in foundational muscle memory in the right arm. In the right photo above, a drumming student uses a head pointer which has been adapted to accommodate drum mallets and bells. The frame holding the drum sitting in front of the student was created to serve program participants in wheelchairs. Each frame is customized to the individual specifications of the musician.
Our Philosophy
Humility + Integrity + Passion = HIP ! - This is our mantra. Humility: Strive to be your best - we can always learn to do better. Integrity: Be there for me when I need you - I'll be there for you. Passion: Love what you do - good music deserves your best.
Program Structure
Youth are exposed to quality music training several hours per week, with enriching opportunities to perform in diverse venues.
Our musicians learn the music of the Masters as well as some of our own Pop favourites.
During daily rehearsals, our musicians get "snack breaks" donated by volunteers.
Graduates of the program volunteer their time to teach younger members what they have learned through the El Sistema program.
Direct Benefits
Who benefits from these activities? Young people who:
Might not have the opportunity to learn quality music
May not have instruments available to them
May not have access to quality instruction, whatever the reason
May not have a place to play
May not have connections to peers who share the same interests
Want to learn
Aside from the music, valuable life lessons are taught, building student's self-esteem, while generating pride of accomplishment.Parents tell us this has improved their childrens' lives.
